If you would like to study in Germany but do not yet have a place at a university, you can apply for a residence permit while you search for one.

The residence permit may be granted to you if you meet the academic and language requirements for admission to a degree program. It is also possible for you to meet these requirements within the validity period of the residence permit in Germany.

You must cover your living expenses and health insurance for the duration of your stay without relying on public assistance.

You may work up to 20 hours per week during your stay. Trial employment is permitted for up to 2 weeks.

If you are under 18 years of age, you need the consent of your legal guardians to apply for admission to a degree program.

• Proceedings at the Immigration Office are generally conducted in German.

• File an appeal against the decision of the Immigration Office within one month of its notification
• Lawsuit before the court specified in the notice of decision on the appeal, if the appeal is not granted

  Application deadline: 6 weeks. You should apply for a residence permit no later than 8 weeks before your current visa or residence permit expires.

• Validity period: 9 months
  The residence permit is issued for a maximum of 9 months.

The immigration office responsible for the applicant's place of residence is responsible for processing the application.
