The driver card is used to record driving and rest times in commercial goods and passenger transport.
The driver card is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. You can renew the driver card upon request. You must do this at least 15 working days before the card expires. If your driver card has already expired, you must place a new initial order.
Your renewed driver card is valid immediately after the expiry date of the old card. You must carry the expired driver card with you for at least 28 days in addition to the new card.
Only you may use the driver card issued to you personally. It always remains your property, even if your employer has paid for the driver card. In principle, employers are not obliged to cover the costs.
In the event of damage or malfunction of the driver card, you must apply for a replacement card from your local office within 7 calendar days.
Driver cards are issued by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
