• Applicants must be either a vehicle manufacturer, vehicle parts manufacturer, vehicle repair shop, or vehicle dealer.
• The company headquarters or branch office must be located in Mainz.
• The applicant's reliability must be guaranteed. This will be checked and determined by the registration authority.
• There must be no outstanding motor vehicle tax arrears. All outstanding fees incurred in connection with a registration must be paid.

You must submit the application in person or through an authorized representative.

• In order to be able to use the red license plates continuously, you must submit a written application for renewal in good time before the expiry date (14 days in advance), presenting the logbook and the vehicle registration document. The registration authority will not send you a special request or reminder regarding the expiry date. It is your responsibility to submit the application in good time.
• Once the validity period has expired, you must immediately return the license plates and vehicle registration booklet to the registration authority. A new application is then required for reissuance.
• When applying for a new vehicle registration booklet, you must submit the previous vehicle registration booklet together with the logbook to the registration authority.

• Once all the documents have been submitted and reliability has been verified, allocation usually takes place within 7 to 14 days.
• If you include a telephone number on the application, we will inform you as soon as the processing is complete.

• Informal application stating surname, first name, date of birth, place of birth, address
• Original valid identity card or passport of the owner
• Current business registration (not older than 3 years)
• Police clearance certificate (for authorities, red permanent license plates; not older than 3 months)
• Electronic insurance confirmation (EVB number, former cover card) for red permanent license plates
• Rental agreement showing that at least 3 parking spaces are available
• Signed declaration regarding the correct use of red license plates (form available in the "Forms" section at the bottom of this page or at the local registration authority)
• SEPA direct debit mandate for motor vehicle tax (form available in the "Forms" section at the bottom of this page or from your local registration authority)
• Request for points status from the Central Traffic Register is made by the registration authority

If represented by an authorized person, additionally:

• Identity document of the authorized representative and the person granting the power of attorney
• Signed power of attorney

For registration of companies entered in the commercial register, the following additional documents are required:

• Current extract from the commercial register (at the local court) / business registration (each not older than 3 years)
• Power of attorney from the management or authorized signatory with ID (copy) for registration by a third party
• Identification of the authorized person
• Name of the responsible persons
• Copies of the ID cards of the responsible persons
• Police clearance certificate (for authorities, red permanent license plates; not older than 3 months) of the responsible persons
• Signed declaration regarding the correct use of red license plates by the responsible persons

• Fees for issuing red permanent license plates: €100
• Fees for renewal: €43.80
• Fees for a new vehicle registration document: €15.60

• The fees do not include the cost of license plates.
