Local public transport (ÖPNV) provides accessible transportation for everyone via public transport on scheduled and on-demand services. Local transport is defined as follows:

• the majority of passengers travel a maximum distance of 50 km
• The total travel time for passengers does not exceed one hour

Local transport serves to connect residential and work locations as well as public, social, and cultural facilities in line with demand. A local transport ticket is required to use local public transport (ÖPNV). This ticket can be purchased online or in person from transport associations. It is also possible to purchase discounted local transport tickets.
