Quaint old town charm
The Kneipe Klingelbeutel pub has had an eventful history: a carpenter built the house in 1863, and until the early 1970s, there was a grocery store on the ground floor. After a temporary conversion into an antique shop, it was converted into a pub in 1982. The name has remained unchanged to this day and is reminiscent of the time when there was still a monastery on Kartäuserstraße.
However, the eponymous collection bag is not intended for collecting donations here. It is one of the many lovely details that can be found in the premises—such as the windows from a former church in Gonsenheim or pictures by Mainz artists Gertrud Degenhard and Hans Georg Lautner, offering insights into times gone by. A warm red tone, wood paneling, stucco, and atmospheric chandeliers round off the atmosphere.
In addition to a selection of draft beers and wines from Rheinhessen, guests can enjoy Mainz snacks and Dinnele—a German specialty similar to tarte flambée—in a wide variety of variations.
An outdoor seating area invites you to watch the hustle and bustle of the old town on Augustinerstraße and relax as the evening draws to a close.
