With a collection of around 700,000 media items, the Scientific City Library is one of the largest municipal scientific libraries in Germany. Non-fiction and fiction, sheet music, films, magazines, audiobooks, large-print books, and music CDs are available for loan.

Public library - Anna Seghers
Strong for education and knowledge. The Anna Seghers Public Library provides people of all ages with free access to information and knowledge. Non-fiction and fiction, sheet music, films, magazines, audiobooks, large-print books, and music CDs are available for loan.

Gutenberg Library
The Gutenberg Library is a specialist library covering the entire field of book, printing, and writing history. It comprises around 80,000 volumes and periodicals.
As a reference library, it makes its holdings available in the reading room, which is open to all interested parties free of charge. Most of the holdings are stored in magazines. There is a reference library in the reading room. Some of the holdings are on permanent or temporary display in the museum.
The library is divided into the sections "Incunabula Collection," "Exhibition Pieces," and "Specialized Literature."

Library of the Peter Cornelius Conservatory
The Peter Cornelius Conservatory maintains its own specialized music library. Access is available to teachers, pupils, and students of the PCK and the College of Music at Johannes Gutenberg University.
The PCK library also complements the music library of the Anna Seghers Public Library. Interested parties are welcome to visit after registering in advance.
The PCK library's collection focuses on: music education, early music education, instrumental pedagogy, instrumentology, music theory, and music history, as well as related teaching materials and sheet music. Special archive: works by contemporary composers from Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Hesse. The orchestral materials are primarily intended for the PCK's orchestras and ensembles.
Online search
The PCK Library's holdings can be searched in the online catalog of the state capital of Mainz. The available journals and series are also listed here.
The extensive old stock of sheet music and orchestral materials can only be searched in its entirety during the library's opening hours using the card catalogs (alphabetical and systematic catalog). The same applies to the sound recordings.

University Library of the Johannes Gutenberg University
The University Library is the information and literature supply system of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. It consists of the Central Library, which primarily performs overarching functions, and several specialized departments, interdisciplinary departmental libraries, and departmental (sub)libraries as decentralized reference libraries.
Holdings:
Over 1,100 linear meters of archival materials, over 3.4 million print media, over 1.2 million e-books and electronic journals, over 800 manuscripts, 6 incunabula, textbook collection.
The library collection focuses on French studies and the USA library, among other areas.

Martinus Library Scientific Diocesan Library of the Diocese of Mainz
The Martinus Library is the third largest library in Mainz with around 300,000 volumes and one of the largest theological libraries in Germany. It is open to anyone interested.
Due to its unique historical holdings, the institution is a renowned ecclesiastical and academic library among scholars and students in Mainz and the Rhine-Main area, as well as in Germany and abroad. Its main areas of focus are:
- Theology
- Church history
- History
- German literature
- plus the latest literature on theology and current religious, ethical, and social issues
The Martinus Library is the oldest library in Mainz (since 1662) that has been in continuous operation to this day. Its holdings include 300,000 volumes on theology and the humanities, 140 current periodicals, and numerous manuscripts and historical prints covering all fields of knowledge.

Library of the LEIZA - Leibniz Center for Archaeology
The library is a central and integral part of the Leibniz Research Institute for Archaeology. With a collection of currently around 180,000 media items and 2,000 journals (1,300 of which are ongoing), it is one of the largest and most important European special libraries on archaeology and cultural history of the ancient world.
The chronological focus of the collection ranges from the Paleolithic to the High Middle Ages. Special thematic areas include archaeology and natural sciences, China, ancient medical history, and Coptic textiles.
The LEIZA library is a reference library open to the public with open-shelf access. The media (journals, books, etc.) can only be viewed at workstations in the library rooms: borrowing is not possible.

Library of the Leibniz Institute of European History
With approximately 90,000 printed titles and approximately 900,000 electronic licensed copies, the IEG library offers literature on European history since the mid-15th century.
The focus is on European and international history as well as church and theological history since the Humanist and Reformation periods. The library provides international monographs, specialist journals, and bibliographic resources on these topics. All holdings can be searched in the Institute's online catalog.
The library's reference collection is used by the institute's employees, scholarship holders, and guests, and is also available to anyone outside the institute who wishes to read, work, or conduct research in the library.
