Safety advisors for senior citizens in Mainz (SfS)

Here you will find information on safety advisors for senior citizens in the state capital Mainz. Together with the "Kommunale Präventivrat" of the city of Mainz (KPR), the Mainz police headquarters trained 26 senior citizens as "safety advisors".

The senior safety advisors in Mainz are there to help older people as expert contacts. They help to identify dangers early on, give tips on how to protect against fraud, and act as a link between senior citizens, the police, and the city administration, thereby contributing to greater safety and quality of life in old age.

Older people are more likely to fall victim to (online) fraud, trick theft, or dubious door-to-door sales in everyday life. They often tend to be more trusting, more helpful, or live alone, which perpetrators deliberately exploit.

The Municipal Prevention Council (KPR), together with the Mainz Police Headquarters, therefore trains senior citizens as senior safety advisors who provide helpful support through tips and close contact with the local community, thereby increasing the subjective sense of safety among older citizens in Mainz.

The selected individuals are free to plan their activities as senior safety advisors at their own discretion, on their own responsibility, and independently.

The senior safety advisors are trained to:

  • Identifying potential risks among those seeking advice,
  • providing specific behavioral recommendations,
  • and establishing rapid contact with the relevant municipal authorities or the police in specific dangerous situations.
