Social city

The federal-state Social City program was launched with the aim of upgrading neighborhoods facing urban, economic, and social problems and improving living conditions in these neighborhoods.

The program not only encompasses structural improvements, but also aims to support developments in areas such as culture, leisure, safety, families, senior citizens, youth, the environment, and employment and training promotion.

The participation of citizens in shaping their living environment is a particularly important principle. On June
21, 2000, the city council passed a resolution that the city of Mainz would participate in the Social City program.
Since then, three regional windows have been established in Mainz. Currently, these so-called neighborhoods are located in the districts of Mainzer Neustadt, Mombach, and Lerchenberg.

What is neighborhood management?

A neighborhood management team was formed to implement the program in neighborhoods. There are contact persons in each regional office (see contact addresses). Neighborhood management plays an important role in the development processes in the neighborhood. It serves as an interface and coordination point between the city administration, residents, institutions, organizations, and companies. Neighborhood management supports your activities and suggestions. The cooperation of all committed actors in the neighborhood should be promoted and bundled in order to strengthen existing structures and develop new projects. To make it easy for you to reach us, a district office has been set up directly in your residential area.

What happens in the district office?

You are welcome to bring your ideas, criticism, suggestions, questions, and commitment to the district office. Here you can find out about planned changes and activities in your neighborhood.

At the district office, you can meet people who are actively involved in their neighborhood. Groups that help shape the urban development process meet in the offices. In addition, there is a wide range of activities and information events on offer.

The neighborhood management team is available by appointment at the neighborhood office. We would be delighted to talk to you.

How can you get involved?

As citizens, you are the experts on the neighborhood in which you live. Tell us what makes your neighborhood livable and what you think should be changed.

You have the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the renewal and improvement of your living environment and neighborhood. We invite you to participate in working groups and forums, as well as in jointly developed activities such as neighborhood projects, neighborhood newspapers, etc.
