Mainz-Wiesbaden environmental zone
Abolition of the low emission zone since October 1, 2025 in the Mainz city area.
Mainz and Wiesbaden introduced a joint low emission zone on February 1, 2013. This reduced the environmental and health impacts caused by motorized road traffic.
Since 2024, air pollution in Mainz has been below the legal limits, partly due to the development of a vehicle fleet with lower emissions. As a result, the low emission zone in the Mainz city area will be lifted again on October 1, 2025, and the requirement to display an emissions sticker when driving in the Mainz city area will no longer apply.
Additional information on the existing and abolished low emission zones in Germany is listed on the website of the Federal Environment Agency.
