The Climate Change Trail is a learning workshop divided into stations. A total of nine stations are used to explore the individual aspects and consequences of climate change and the resulting climate protection measures.

The stations focus on the past and future of climate change from both a global and regional perspective. In this case, regional means that climate data and forecasts for Rhineland-Palatinate are used.

By working through the individual stations, the small groups deal with the individual aspects in a factual, reflective, and creative manner. This results in independent teamwork guided by work assignments, which illustrates the global issue of climate change.

Who is it for?

The learning workshop can be borrowed free of charge by secondary schools (secondary levels I and II) from the Parks and Environment Department. The entire learning workshop concept or individual stations can be borrowed.

Drinking water is a vital resource that is essential for the survival of all living beings. It is not only a basic need, but also a precious liquid that is not available in sufficient quantity or quality in many parts of the world.

Raising children's awareness of drinking water is very important, as it encourages them to make responsible decisions and develop sustainable habits. Children learn to understand that clean drinking water is a precious commodity that cannot be taken for granted and must be protected, and they learn that avoiding bottled water saves many finite resources.

Who is it for?

The science and art & economics educational modules are suitable for age groups from 5th grade onwards. The politics & social studies educational module is suitable for 8th grade and above.

What is the function of the forest? What might the forest of the future look like? How does climate change affect it, and what adaptation measures are available?
Students are introduced to different perspectives on the forest and how they relate to climate change. The collection of materials is divided into three sections: "Introduction," "Teaching Module," and "Background Information."

Who is it for?

The materials are intended for use in science lessons in grades 3 and 4 and biology and geography lessons in grades 8 and 10. They are suitable for use in the classroom as well as for field trips to the forest.

Independently of the ubz, nature discovery excursions are also offered in parallel in the adjacent outdoor area. The nearby, freely accessible, renaturalized Weisenau quarry is ideal for this.

The tours are free of charge and are offered by telephone appointment. They are primarily aimed at preschool and elementary school children.

Another important location for environmental education is the Mainz Environmental Education Center (ubz) at the Weisenau quarry. The ubz in Weisenau invites young people to learn about waste and the environment in an impressive way. The motto here is: learning with all the senses.
