Digital infrastructure

The increasing digitalization of the economy, administration and private life requires a corresponding, high-performance infrastructure. Fast internet connections are an important prerequisite for progress and the future viability of the city. Mainz is therefore focusing on fiber optics, Wi-Fi hotspots and 5G.

Laying fiber optics

Aktuelle Information

Further information

  • Mainzer Breitband GmbH: Mainzer Breitband is a regional provider in Mainz and the surrounding area and a wholly owned subsidiary of Mainzer Stadtwerke AG. There is already a high connection density via the group's own fiber optic network, particularly in commercial and mixed-use areas. In addition, the network is being expanded to meet the needs of commercial customers. The product portfolio includes internet and site networking with bandwidths of up to 100 Gbit/s, as well as Wi-Fi solutions and dark fiber connections. In addition to business customer products, Mainzer Breitband also offers residential customer products in certain areas, such as the Heiligkreuz district and the Hildegardis area.
  • Third-party providers: On this website, you will find the expansion projects of telecommunications companies that are promoting them in their own name. However, the completed fiber optic network can often also be used later by other companies, i.e., third-party providers, to offer you products and tariffs (open access). It is therefore possible that you may be contacted by other companies, such as 1&1 Telecom GmbH, regarding fiber optic expansion, even if your address is not in their expansion area according to the above list.
  • Construction and planning companies: Telecommunications companies do not lay the fiber optic cables themselves, but commission construction and planning companies to do so. Construction sites in urban areas may therefore also be identified by the name of the respective construction company. House inspections to coordinate the laying of cables on your property or within your building may also be carried out by construction or planning companies on behalf of the telecommunications companies. The companies currently being used are:
    • Telekom: Genc & Solutions30 Field Services Süd GmbH
    • OXG:
      • Oberstadt, Mombach: HHR Glasfaser/ Geodesia Süd
      • Bretzenheim, Lerchenberg: OEC
      • Weisenau, Hechtsheim: BraCom GmbH
    • Westconnect: Selecta FTTH
