Drusus stone
Remains of the Drusus Stone, which is considered a special Roman legacy, can be seen on the citadel grounds on the edge of Mainz's old town.
A mystical atmosphere hangs over the nighttime scene in Roman Mainz. Roman soldiers in full armor gather around the fire of a large pyre and lay down their spoils and weapons at its foot. Lamentations echo through the air, while the flickering fire casts shapeless shadows on the nearby memorial... This is how the annual cult of the dead for General Drusus might have played out.
