Our training companies in Mainz

Children are our future, our hope, and our opportunity—which is why providing them with qualified care is so important to us. The work done in our daycare centers is already particularly significant today. In addition to performing important social functions for families in our city, educators make a decisive contribution to children's development in areas such as language support, intercultural education, and inclusive work with children with disabilities.

In the city administration's 61 daycare centers, around 800 educators develop different conceptual focuses and put them into practice with the children entrusted to their care. The spectrum of care options offered by our facilities ranges from nurseries and kindergartens to after-school care centers and mixed-age groups.

Training paths

As a rule, you start with a secondary school leaving certificate or intermediate school leaving certificate and then attend a higher vocational school for two years, studying social assistance. The next step on the path to becoming a childcare worker is to attend a higher vocational school for two years, studying social pedagogy/childcare. You can complete your one-year final internship at one of the many municipal daycare centers.

After successfully passing your exam, you will receive state recognition as an educator and can continue to pursue your career at one of Mainz's daycare centers. In cooperation with the technical colleges for social services, colleagues in the municipal daycare centers not only train prospective educators, but also social assistants as part of block iinternship at one of the many municipal daycare centers.

In cooperation with the technical colleges for social services, colleagues in the municipal daycare centers not only train prospective educators, but also social assistants as part of block internships. This also applies to students in social or orientation internships and other interns who spend up to a year observing at the facilities.

After the training

Thanks to the large number of municipal facilities, there are also opportunities for career advancement, from deputy manager of a daycare center to manager. This opens up a new area of responsibility that includes not only childcare, but also conceptual, organizational, and ultimately personnel responsibilities.
