Intercultural Week will kick off with a festive opening featuring Latin American music on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Haus der Jugend.

The highlight will be the Intercultural Festival on Mainz’s Domplatz, which will be celebrated for the 51st time this year on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Mayor Nino Haase and the chair of the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration, Sima Hosseini, will officially open the festival at 12 p.m.

At numerous booths representing more than 20 nations, Mainz-based clubs and initiatives invite visitors on a culinary journey around the world. The city is particularly pleased that five new migrant organizations have applied to participate in the festival and will enrich it with fresh perspectives.

The varied stage program will transport the audience to countries such as South Korea, Bulgaria, and Senegal through music and dance. The festival will conclude with global beats from Ukrainian musician DJ Janeck.

The program includes 15 events in cooperation with over 30 institutions, organizations, and city departments. These include sports activities, workshops, film screenings, panel discussions, and lectures.

As is tradition, the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration has once again organized its own event, “For You. For Me. For All of Us.” People from diverse backgrounds and with varied migration histories will share their paths to volunteer work and talk about their experiences.

This year will once again feature events focused on the labor market and integration. These include the well-established format of the seventh Mainz Professional Recognition Fair, offered in cooperation with the Mainz Employment Agency, the Mainz Job Center, and other partners in the Labor Market & Integration Network. The information fair is aimed at international professionals with foreign degrees and interested companies seeking advice on professional recognition procedures and bridging programs. The fair will be complemented by a job fair designed to facilitate direct interaction between job seekers and employers, as well as a workshop for immigrant women.

The International Professionals’ Roundtable in Mainz, which offers domestic and international professionals the opportunity to discuss life and work in the city, is taking place for the third time. It is a joint project of the City of Mainz in cooperation with Mainz University Medical Center and RP Solutions GmbH.

HomeStage, a youth event where young artists showcase their creativity and celebrate diversity in Mainz through their performances, has become a regular feature of the week. Mayor Nino Haase will open the fifth-anniversary celebration of HomeStage.

On Friday, September 18, 2026, the documentary “Das Deutsche Volk” will screen at CinéMayence. Filmmaker Marcin Wierzchowski spent several years accompanying the surviving relatives of the victims of the Hanau massacre. He documents their grief as well as how the authorities have dealt with the bereaved families. The director will be a guest at the cinema that evening.
