This department is responsible for the collection of all unpaid debts owed to the state capital of Mainz (with the exception of advance maintenance payments). In the course of enforcement, measures may be taken that restrict the fundamental rights of the debtor. These include, for example, garnishment of wages, bank accounts, or rent. 

In addition, in cases prescribed by law, the department is obliged to enforce outstanding claims of other public-law corporations (e.g., claims of the contribution service – ARD, ZDF, Deutschlandradio, and all other municipalities) against debtors residing in Mainz within the framework of administrative assistance.
