Gift tree - register now and ensure more trees in the urban area
The "Gift Tree" campaign is entering its eighth year.
Since mid-January, garden owners have been able to register for this year's campaign to plant and permanently care for a "Gifted Tree" on their property.
Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Department of Green Spaces and Environment, is delighted with the continuing popularity of the project, which has been running since 2018: "Our goal remains to strengthen the deciduous tree population in the urban area. I cordially invite all Mainz residents who have a garden to participate."
The campaign is being carried out by the Department of Green Spaces and Environment. Incoming applications are recorded centrally there. Interested citizens can choose their desired tree from a list of suggestions compiled by experts. The selection ranges from small-crowned fruit trees to large park trees. The trees being given away are between six and ten years old and around four to five meters tall.
The trees will be delivered to the recipients at the beginning of December 2026 and placed at the edge of their property. Based on detailed planting instructions, hobby gardeners should be able to plant the "gift tree" in their garden properly and maintain it long-term.

It should be noted that only fully completed applications will be considered and that existing obligations to replace trees under the statutory order on the protection of tree populations cannot be offset.
