Welcome to the Department of Environment and Mobility! The Department of Environment and Mobility

is responsible for the following areas:

- The City Planning Office has a total of three departments within the Mobility Department.
These include the Transport Division, which is responsible for transport planning and making tomorrow's mobility future-proof and attractive for everyone. Whether on foot, by bike, by car, or by eco-friendly transport. This includes projects such as the creation of the SUMP, a mobility plan for Mainz. The traffic engineering department is responsible for traffic lights, the processing of traffic data, the parking guidance system, and parking meters, among other things.
The road operations department is responsible for maintaining the city's roads and for civil engineering projects. They monitor the road infrastructure of the state capital Mainz for all residents in order to maintain it in a proper, functional, and safe condition. This also includes engineering structures (bridge constructions).
The road traffic authority is responsible for closures of any kind in the traffic area and has the task of ensuring that traffic flows safely. Construction site management accounts for a large part of the planning and coordination. This department is responsible for issuing resident parking permits and parking facilities for people with disabilities, bollards, markings, and signs.

- The Parks and Environment Office, which is responsible for environmental planning, nature and species conservation, landscape management, emission control, environmental information, climate protection and climate adaptation, energy consulting, open space and property planning, environmental regulations, park maintenance and tree care, as well as technical services including well maintenance and playground inspections, and responsibility for the Mainz Wildlife Park.
- The municipal cleaning department (Office 70), which is responsible for street cleaning
. - The Mainz and Mainz-Bingen Municipal Waste Management Authority (public institution), which is responsible for waste disposal.
- The Mainz Public Utility Company (public institution), which is responsible for drainage and cemeteries.

The responsibilities of the Department of Environment and Mobility thus extend from central areas such as environmental and species protection, immission control, climate protection and climate adaptation, open space design and green space maintenance to traffic planning, maintenance and redesign of roads and squares, as well as street cleaning, waste disposal, drainage, and cemetery management.
