MAINZ SHINES
Working together for a clean and well-maintained Mainz. After all, that’s the best calling card a city can have. Under the slogan “MAINZ GLÄNZT,” the state capital of Mainz and Mainzer Mobilität are focusing on cleanliness, quality, and maintenance.
MAINZ GLÄNZT was launched at the end of 2025 as part of a bus stop initiative by Mainzer Mobilität and the state capital of Mainz. The goal was to significantly improve cleanliness and passenger services at heavily used bus stops throughout the city.
Thorough Cleaning of the Bahnhofstraße–Münsterplatz–Schillerstraße Corridor
Starting in March 2026, the state capital expanded the initiative—through its municipal sanitation department—to include heavily trafficked squares and streets.
The cleanup campaign on Lotharstraße represented an additional measure that went beyond the regular, statutorily mandated street cleaning. Prior to this, the public trash cans on Lotharstraße had already been thoroughly cleaned.
As a pilot project, a deep cleaning of the Bahnhofstraße–Münsterplatz–Schillerstraße corridor (up to Kleine Langgasse) is being carried out.
Next deep cleaning: Münsterplatz and adjacent main streets, August 10–15, 2026
Starting in late July, residents and nearby businesses were informed about the cleanup operation via flyers and asked for their understanding, as during the work:
- there may be temporary, section-by-section closures
- and noise and steam are to be expected.
Storefronts and windows may become temporarily soiled, but these will be rinsed off with water once the work is complete—ensuring that the entire area shines afterward.
To ensure that it stays that way after the deep cleaning, we ask everyone to pitch in and help keep the area clean. This is the only way we can achieve our shared goal—a sustainable revitalization of Münsterplatz!

Start of the deep cleaning of Münsterplatz (August 10, 2026)
