What are the application deadlines?
Please refer to the respective training occupation for detailed information. There you will find a detailed overview of the current application deadlines.
What documents do I need to send?
For a complete application, please send us a cover letter, resume, copies of your last two transcripts, your degree certificate (if available), internship certificates, employment references, and, for students and those who have dropped out of college, your enrollment or graduation certificate and grade overviews, as well as proof of volunteer work, if applicable.
How can I submit my application?
Applications must be submitted via our application portal. You will find the link to the job advertisement on the subpage for the respective apprenticeship as well as in the job advertisements at mainz.de/karriere (opens in a new tab)
Yes, you can also apply for multiple apprenticeships. As there are different selection procedures and interviews, please submit a separate application for each apprenticeship.
When does the training start?
Candidates for the 2nd and 3rd entry-level positions (administration) start on July 1 of each year. The other training programs start on August 1 of each year. The other dual study programs have different start dates (September 1 or October 1 of each year).
How high is the training allowance?
Please refer to the respective training occupation for the current amounts. In principle, the training allowance (for trainees employed under a collective agreement) is based on the collective agreement for trainees in the public sector and is always increased in line with the latest collective agreements.
How long does the training take?
The duration of training is specified in the respective training regulations. For example, training to become an automotive mechatronics technician takes three and a half years, training to become an administrative assistant or gardener normally takes three years, and training to become a city secretary trainee (2nd entry-level position) takes two years.
Do I have a contact person during my training?
At the City of Mainz, training officers and trainers are available to assist and support you in every department. Training managers are also available to answer any questions you may have.
Will I get to know different offices during my training?
In administrative professions, you will generally pass through nine specialist departments during your training period (e.g., citizens' office, social services office, parks and environment office, or traffic monitoring office). During the dual study program, you will get to know five of the city's specialist departments. In manual and technical professions, you will remain at your respective training center (e.g., automotive workshop, police station) during your training.
