Discoveries on the Lerchenberg
Another discovery in our series takes us to Mainz-Lerchenberg.
Here, in the bell tower of the Protestant Maria Magdalena parish, a bell rings for peace: the "PeaceBell." A special feature is that it was cast from melted-down scrap metal from weapons, among other things. The inscription "You shall not kill" is clearly legible, its meaning timeless as a sign of hope, against war and violence, for peaceful coexistence.
Lerchenberg is also ideal for a hike: how about a stroll through the new shopping arcade, much of which has been modernized? Afterwards, continue on to the nearby park with its exercise equipment and the observation deck at the duck pond.
