Discoveries in Marienborn
Another discovery in our series takes us to Mainz-Marienborn.
Have you heard of Marienborn in the district of the same name? This medieval wall fountain made of red sandstone can be found in a narrow alleyway. The stone image of Mary on the fountain has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail. A special feature is the head of the Christ Child, which was missing. Using old photographs, it was first recreated as a clay model, examined, and then remade from sandstone.
Just a few steps away is the pilgrimage church of St. Stephen. The church attracts visitors from near and far. The Catholic church is also a popular venue for concerts.
