Ada Lovelace Project - Rhineland-Palatinate Competence Center for Women in STEM
Purpose of the association
The Ada Lovelace Project is a Rhineland-Palatinate competence center and is funded by the European Social Fund, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Family, Women, Youth, Integration, and Consumer Protection, and the Ministry of Science, Further Education, and Culture. The project aims to inspire girls and young women to pursue careers and degrees in mathematics, science, and technology.
The project focuses on role models: female students in STEM degree programs and young women in STEM apprenticeships provide information, advice, and support to schoolgirls and first-year students. They visit schools, organize project days at universities, and present themselves as role models to small groups of interested schoolgirls. The mentors provide information about study and training opportunities and talk about their own career paths.
In workshops and study groups, the mentors work with the schoolgirls on specific technical and scientific tasks, thereby promoting the girls' self-confidence in STEM subjects. In addition, the Ada Lovelace Project in Mainz offers support for female students in STEM subjects: In addition to mentoring for first-year students to help them get started with their studies, the ALP in Mainz also offers support for female STEM students in higher semesters throughout their studies; they can benefit from a diverse seminar program on key qualifications for professional life.
