Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland Landesverband Rheinland-Pfalz e.V. (BUND)
Purpose of the association
BUND is a recognized nature conservation association under § 29 BNatSchG (Federal Nature Conservation Act), with 34 district and over 60 local groups active throughout Rhineland-Palatinate. BUND's motto, "The earth needs friends," is the guiding principle for its volunteers and full-time staff. They are committed to promoting more nature in villages and towns, economical land use, ecological construction and living, ecological agriculture and species-appropriate animal husbandry, the preservation and creation of habitats for animals and plants, the economical use of all resources, and sustainable management.
Ten volunteer working groups contribute their expertise on many environmental and nature conservation topics and often meet in Mainz. The BUND youth group leads the BUND children's group in the "Alte Ziegelei" (old brickworks). The Mainz-Stadt district group is "BUND on site." The members meet regularly every fourth Monday of the month at 8 p.m. at the office and are always happy to welcome visitors. They look after the nature trail in the "Alte Ziegelei," for example. School classes and groups can request a guided tour there.
