Rheinische Orchesterakademie Mainz e. V.

Purpose of the association

The Rheinische Orchesterakademie Mainz (ROAM) organizes orchestra courses several times a year for young musicians, music students, schoolchildren, and ambitious amateur musicians. ROAM does not see itself as competing with the symphony orchestras that have been established in the region for many years. Participants in the orchestra courses rehearse demanding orchestral works at a high level and present them to the public in concerts.

Away from school, college, and other ensembles, the academy aims to provide an opportunity to work on great orchestral music in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. In addition to the musical direction, experienced lecturers support the rehearsals.

The final concert is the highlight and culmination of a work phase. In the future, the ensemble's program will include not only the great orchestral literature, but also lesser-known works, new music, and film and jazz-related music.

The Rheinische Orchesterakademie does not have a permanent conductor, but selects a new musical director for each work phase. The academy aims to provide a forum primarily for young conductors and instrumental soloists.
