The purpose of the association is

• to promote historical awareness and culture
• promoting research and education
• supporting the preservation and protection of historical monuments

These objectives are achieved in particular by

• making historical buildings accessible to the public in the form of guided tours, public events, and informational events, as well as publications in the press and online media.
• Scientific exploration and study of the regional history and culture of Mainz, in particular its underground buildings and people.
• With regard to monument preservation and protection, the association advocates for the preservation and accessibility of underground structures. In addition, the association can carry out or support the ongoing securing, maintenance, repair, and, if necessary, restoration of selected historical buildings.
