"Problem waste" includes household waste that may be hazardous to health or the environment when used or disposed of. State legislators classify it as hazardous waste. This waste must therefore be disposed of separately from other household waste. Examples include: paint strippers, drain cleaners, paints, varnishes, adhesives, alkalis, acids, chemicals such as photographic chemicals, waste oil, pesticides and fertilizers, cleaning agents, as well as rechargeable batteries, batteries, energy-saving light bulbs, and much more.
Public waste disposal authorities (counties and independent cities) offer stationary or mobile collection points ("hazardous waste collection vehicles").
