In Rhineland-Palatinate, all pupils in all grades and year groups at general education schools, full-time elective courses at vocational schools, and colleges are eligible to participate in the free learning materials/textbook rental program.
The textbook loan system in Rhineland-Palatinate is divided into loans for a fee and free learning materials.
Under the free learning materials program, parents or adult students with low incomes receive textbooks and supplementary printed materials, such as workbooks and exercise books, free of charge.
Parents or adult students whose income does not exceed the income limits specified in § 3 of the state ordinance on free learning materials and the paid loan of learning materials receive schoolbooks and supplementary printed materials (e.g., workbooks) free of charge upon request.
Students at special schools and in vocational preparation years are also eligible for free learning materials, regardless of their parents' income.
The application documents for free learning materials must be submitted in paper form to the school authority responsible for your school.
The deadline for submitting the application form for free learning materials is March 15 for the following school year. In justified cases, the application may also be submitted later, for example, if you move to Rhineland-Palatinate after March 15.
