They are divided into 4 service groups:

• Medical rehabilitation services  
• Services for participation in education
• Services for participation in working life
• Social participation services

Among other things, these services can help you to cope with the tasks of everyday life. These include, for example:

• Housing
• Finances
• Household management
• Leisure
• Promotion of private contacts and hobbies
• Dealing with authorities (preparation and support), unless this is the responsibility of a legal guardian
• Mobility
• Parenting
• Support at school, university, or for continuing professional development
• Support in daycare
• Assistive devices
• Promotion of understanding
• Work
• Promotion of independent health care
• Early intervention and early detection
• Support for child development and personality development

The services are tailored to individual needs. They are subordinate to the services provided by other social security and rehabilitation providers (e.g., health insurance, pension insurance, employment agency, accident insurance).

If the eligibility requirements are met, the responsible integration assistance provider will cover the costs of the services.

You can receive integration assistance benefits if

• you have a disability or
• you are at risk of becoming disabled and
• this significantly restricts you in your daily life.

Social participation benefits are generally means-tested.

You can also apply for integration assistance for persons whom you represent within the framework of legal guardianship, custody, or as an authorized representative or legal guardian.

You or your caregiver or authorized representative can apply for integration assistance. In the case of minors, the application can be submitted by the person with parental authority. 

• If you live in Mainz, please contact the Integration Assistance Service of the Social Services Department of the City of Mainz.
• You will receive advice or you can submit an application right away.
• To apply for integration assistance, you can download the application form and attachments as PDF files and send them to us once you have completed them.
• You may be asked to submit additional documents.
• The Social Services Office of the City of Mainz will carry out a participation or overall plan procedure to determine your individual needs for integration assistance and possible further participation benefits. You can request that a person you trust be involved in the overall plan procedure.
• Once all the documents have been submitted, your information and the needs assessment will be used to determine whether you are eligible for benefits and, if so, which ones. This also includes checking whether and to what extent your income and assets will be taken into account.
• After your application has been reviewed, you will receive a decision.

You may

• file an appeal within one month of notification of the administrative decision: for adults, at the Social Services Office of the City of Mainz or the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth, and Care; for minors, at the Social Services Office of the City of Mainz.
• File a lawsuit with the social court within one month of notification of the appeal decision.

Be sure to meet the deadlines set for submitting documents. If this is not possible for understandable reasons, you must apply for an extension. Otherwise, benefits may be denied due to your failure to comply with your legal obligations to cooperate.

This also applies to the deadlines for appeals, i.e., if you disagree with the decision—not only with the rejection notice, but also with the approval notice (amount of the resulting benefit entitlement).

The processing time for your application depends on various factors and varies from case to case. 

You submit an application for integration assistance to the responsible agency. If you are living in Mainz when you start receiving benefits, then the Mainz city administration is responsible for your integration assistance. 

Note: If you submit your application to an integration assistance provider that is not responsible for your case, they will forward your application to the responsible integration assistance provider within 14 days. In this case, you will be informed that your application has been forwarded.

Before contacting the social services department of Mainz city council, you can also contact a "supplementary independent participation advice center" (EUTB). The supplementary service provides information and advice on rehabilitation and participation benefits. The advice provided by the EUTB services is given by people affected by the issues for people affected by the issues. The EUTB services are independent of any particular organization.

In Mainz, this counseling is provided by the "Center for Independent Living."

The application process is generally free of charge for you. 

Please note that any costs incurred for specialist medical certificates must be paid by the applicant.
