Are you registered with your main residence in Mainz and have you moved within Mainz? In this case, we also need to change the vehicle registration certificate or registration certificate part I to your new address.

The change of address can be carried out by the vehicle registration authority, the citizen service center, or the local administration.

In the following cases, the change to the vehicle documents can only be made at the vehicle registration authority:

• The address on the vehicle registration certificate or registration certificate part I has already been changed at an earlier date and therefore already has an address sticker. In this case, we will issue you with new vehicle documents.
  
  
• In addition to your address, your name has also changed (e.g., due to marriage). Please refer to the service "Motor vehicle: Apply for a name change in the vehicle documents." You will find the link at the bottom of this page.
  
  
• If your vehicle was previously registered in another registration district and you now want to register it in Mainz and keep your previous license plate, this is considered a transfer of ownership. Please refer to the service "Motor vehicle: Apply for re-registration of motor vehicle." You will find the link at the bottom of this page.

• The owner of the vehicle has their primary residence in Mainz.
• The company headquarters or branch office is located in Mainz.
• Relocation within Mainz, but family/company name remains unchanged.
• The vehicle has a valid general inspection.

Outstanding fees at the registration authority

Registration is contingent upon your payment of all outstanding fees incurred in connection with the registration. You can pay any outstanding fees on site during the registration process.

• In person, usually immediately
• The waiting time depends on how busy it is.

• Valid and amended identity card or passport of the owner in the original
• Registration certificate part I or vehicle registration document
• Vehicle title, if an address sticker is already affixed to the vehicle registration certificate, as in this case we will need to switch to the new vehicle documents (registration certificate parts I and II).

If represented by an authorized person, additionally:

• Identity document of the authorized representative (and the person granting the power of attorney)
• Signed power of attorney

For vehicles registered to minors, additionally:

• Written consent of both legal guardians
• Identification documents of the legal guardians
• Custody ruling, if applicable

For commercially registered vehicles, you must also submit the following documents:

For companies listed in the commercial register

• Excerpt from the commercial register (at the local court) / business registration (both no older than 3 years)
• Power of attorney from the management or authorized signatory with ID (copy) if registration is carried out by a third party
• Identification of the authorized person

For associations (e.V.)

• Excerpt from the register of associations
• Power of attorney of the representative with ID (copies) if admission is by a third party
• Identification of the authorized person

For civil law partnerships (GbR)

• Overview of all partners (partnership agreement)
• Power of attorney and declaration stating which natural person is to be admitted (signed by all partners)
• Identification of all partners
