If you have already acquired a right of use for a grave site, you can transfer it to another person. You can also specify in writing which person will receive the right of use after your death.
You can transfer the right to use a grave site in Mainz cemeteries to other people. To do so, the grave site must be a so-called "choice grave," the use of which can be extended beyond the legally prescribed resting period.
The transfer of an existing right of use to a third party is possible if you, as the person entitled to use the grave, assign the claim.
After submitting the declaration of assignment, the legal successor must submit an application for transfer of the right of use to the cemetery administration. The contact details of the cemetery administration can be found on the website of the municipal utility company.
Once the application has been approved, the legal successor will receive proof of grave purchase and a notice of the administrative fees.
If the right of use has not been transferred by the time of the authorized user's death, or if the authorized user has not named a successor in writing to the cemetery administration, the following persons are entitled to the right of use in the order listed below:
- Surviving spouse or registered partner
- the children
- grandchildren
- the parents
- the siblings
- Persons not covered by a) to e) in the order of entitlement of their mothers and fathers, for example nieces, nephews, cousins
Important note: Only one person can be the legal successor.
