When disposing of wastewater via the sewer system, a distinction is made between different types of water depending on how it is produced:
Wastewater is water that has been contaminated through use. This means that when you take a shower, use the toilet, run the washing machine, or wash the dishes, you produce wastewater.
The Mainz municipal utility company charges a wastewater fee for discharging wastewater into the sewer system.
The wastewater fee is calculated based on the amount of wastewater you discharge into the public sewage system (sewer system). The calculation is based on your fresh water consumption.
Special feature: Garden irrigation
You can use calibrated water meters to measure the amount of (fresh) water used for garden irrigation.
- This amount is then excluded from the calculation of the wastewater fee.
- You must register the meter with Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz before putting it into operation.
Important: Please inform Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz of the reading of the garden water meter every year.
The report must be made at the time the fresh water meter is read by the property owner.
When purchasing or selling real estate, you must notify the Mainz Economic Authority in writing. To do so, follow the link to the form "Change of ownership notification."
A settlement of the wastewater fee on the transfer date requires
- that the fresh water meter has been read by Mainzer Netze
- or, in Mainz-Ebersheim and Mainz-Laubenheim, by Wasserversorgung Rheinhessen-Pfalz.
