When disposing of wastewater through the sewer system, the water is classified according to its source:
Wastewater is water that has been contaminated through use. This means that when you take a shower, use the toilet, run the washing machine, or wash the dishes, you produce wastewater.
The Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz charges a wastewater fee for the discharge of wastewater into the sewer system.
The wastewater fee is calculated based on the volume of wastewater you discharge into the public sewer system. The calculation is based on your fresh water consumption.
Special Note: Garden Watering
You can use calibrated water meters to document the amount of (fresh) water used for garden irrigation.
- This amount is then excluded from the calculation of the wastewater fee.
- You must register the meter with Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz before putting it into service.
Important: Please report the reading of the garden water meter to Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz annually.
This report must be submitted at the time the property owner reads the fresh water meter.
When buying or selling property, you must notify Wirtschaftsbetrieb Mainz in writing. To do so, follow the link to the "Notification of Change of Ownership" form.
To receive a billing statement for the wastewater fee as of the transfer date,
- the fresh water meter has been read by Mainzer Netze
- or, in Mainz-Ebersheim and Mainz-Laubenheim, by Wasserversorgung Rheinhessen-Pfalz.
