The Gleisberganlage playground is being equipped with new play equipment in response to requests from the neighborhood and a proposal from the Gonsenheim local council.

Two participation dates are planned for the playground participation. At the first meeting (on September 11, 2024), children and interested parties worked together on site to draw up a list of the most important requirements.

This list served as the basis for further planning. At the second meeting (on March 12, 2025), the draft designs were presented. The children jointly decided on a design for the new equipment to be installed and how the play areas should be laid out.

Mainz-Gonsenheim

Many interested children, parents, and residents attended the first participation meeting on September 11, 2024, to share their wishes and ideas. These were collected and a ranking list of the most popular play equipment was created. This ranking list formed the basis for further planning. Various designs were developed in spring 2025 based on the main wishes. Fortunately, many of the wishes and suggestions from the ranking list could be incorporated into the models. Inclusive play options were also included in all designs.

At the second meeting on March 12, 2025, Ms. Udelhoven, the responsible planner from the Parks and Environment Department, presented three different designs for the redesign of the playground. After a round of questions and discussion, the children present voted by a large majority for the first option with the following play equipment: cable car (20 m), climbing frame, hammock, sandpit, and balancing equipment.

The current cost estimate amounts to 125,000 euros.

The new playground equipment was ordered in December 2025. The new equipment will be installed in the spring. The playground is scheduled to reopen before the summer holidays.
