Rescheduling Schusterstrasse
Brief description
The intersection of Schusterstraße/Quintinstraße/Höfchen is currently heavily used by all modes of transport, i.e., cars, trucks, buses, pedestrians, and cyclists. This crossing plays a particularly important role for pedestrians, as it provides access to shopping facilities and bus stops. Against this backdrop, the current situation is to be reorganized and made clearer in the future.
Citizen participation
The plans are to be closely coordinated and developed in consultation with the local community and surrounding businesses. To this end, public participation meetings are planned. A kick-off event for the participation process took place on November 7, 2023, at the Haus der Jugend.
Affected urban area
Mainz Old Town
Planned planning and implementation period
Once various framework conditions have been clarified (including tramway expansion and development of the government district), the follow-up to the kick-off event on November 7, 2023, is planned for the appropriate time.
Expected costs
The costs depend on the type and scope of the measures and cannot be quantified at this stage.
Current processing status (February 20, 2026)
The kick-off event for public participation took place on November 7, 2023. Based in part on the insights gained there, the draft plan was revised and updated. This new draft was submitted to the Old Town Local Advisory Council and the Transportation Committee for review at the end of April 2024.
In the meantime, various framework conditions have evolved, including in connection with other planning processes (e.g., tram expansion in the city center, government district forum). These processes are currently being awaited.
