Nationwide reading aloud day in the "most effective reading aloud capital"
2025, the nationwide Read Aloud Day took place on November 21. The motto was: "Reading aloud speaks your language".
In Mainz, the "reading aloud capital", many places will once again be transformed into reading corners around the day of action.
The importance of reading aloud has been highlighted since 2004 by a joint initiative between DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen, and Deutsche Bahn Stiftung, which takes place every third Friday in November with the nationwide reading day campaign.
The Gutenberg and media city of Mainz has participated in the campaign day since its inception and was awarded the title of "Most Publicly Effective Reading Aloud Capital" in 2014. Since then, the motto in November has been "Mainz reads colorfully"! This year, reading aloud sessions will again be offered under the motto of the National Reading Aloud Day: "Reading aloud speaks your language."
