As part of the redevelopment of Mainz's customs port, flood protection for the state capital has also been further expanded. If the Rhine reaches a level of 7.40 meters, a mobile wall will protect areas of Neustadt from the floodwaters in the future. A practical test at the beginning of September was to show whether all the elements fit together and the structure works without any problems—and it was a success.
