Repeated brief outages in the new accessible elevator at the “Roman Theater”
The new elevator at the “Römisches Theater” station, which the state capital of Mainz put into service last Thursday as an accessible connection to Mainz’s Upper Town, has been very well received by residents and is already being used extensively.
The city of Mainz had contracted a specialized company to install and operate the elevator system. This elevator company is responsible for the technical maintenance of the system as well as for analyzing and resolving any malfunctions that occur.
The specialized company is investigating the causes of the malfunctions
With technically complex systems, individual malfunctions often only become apparent during actual operation under real-world and sustained usage conditions. In the meantime, the system experienced brief outages due to technical malfunctions—both on Friday, July 10, and on Monday, July 13.
Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Mobility Department: “The contracted company conducted a thorough inspection of the elevator, analyzed the technical data, and returned it to service just a few hours later. The cause is currently being investigated by the specialist company, and any necessary measures will be implemented by them afterward. We ask for your understanding regarding temporary restrictions during this initial phase.”
The goal remains to ensure the facility operates reliably on a daily basis and to guarantee trouble-free operation. The safety of users is guaranteed at all times.
