First shop window designed as part of the vacancy sticker campaign
The vacancy wrapping project is picking up speed. Today, Thursday (11.06.2026), a shop window of the former Wirth children's store was covered with stickers, thus creatively designing the first vacant space in Mainz city center.
The goal of the project is to visually enhance vacant retail spaces and thereby contribute to a more vibrant downtown. The concept is based on large-scale window decals featuring motifs and illustrations that evoke Mainz’s identity.
“The first set of decals to be installed demonstrates how vacant spaces can be made more attractive in the short term and positively integrated into the cityscape. At the same time, the presentation and marketing of the spaces remain fully possible,” said Manuela Matz, Head of the Economic Affairs Department.
The illustrations were developed in collaboration with the agency Alma, and Atelier 55 brought them to life on-site. We would like to thank the building’s owners for their support of the project. If you are interested in a vacant space wrap, please feel free to contact Mainz Economic Development.
