The exhibition by Mainz-based artist Tinatin Tevzadze is part of the “NeustART” art project organized by the Mainz-Neustadt Neighborhood Management. The project offers artists the opportunity to present their work at the neighborhood office, thereby fostering direct engagement with the local community. The goal is to make art more visible, enrich the neighborhood culturally, and create opportunities for interaction within Neustadt’s public life.

The exhibition concludes with a closing event on March 31, 2026. Visitors are invited to meet the artist in person and engage in conversation about her works.

About Mainz-based artist Tinatin Tevzadze

Born in Georgia in 1973, Tinatin Tevzadze completed a classical education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi, specializing in monumental painting. In the late 1990s, at her mother’s suggestion, she came to Germany, initially as an au pair, and later to study art history and German as a foreign language in Mainz. Despite initial language barriers, she learned German with great determination. A process that left a lasting impression on her and shaped her special relationship with the German language and literature. “In the end, what counts is not what you’ve learned institutionally, but whether you remain curious,” says Tevzadze.

The artist has lived in Mainz since 2000. A serious illness and a kidney transplant in 2011 had a lasting impact on her life and led to a new artistic and personal direction. She describes her work as a process between rational thinking and emotional expression. Gratitude and a focus on the essential have shaped her life and her art ever since.

Her painting moves between impression and expression, less realistic and more emotionally charged. Female figures are central motifs—symbols of strength, mystery, and inner beauty. Tevzadze works intuitively, allowing lines and colors to emerge during the process, and strives in each work to “capture a fleeting moment in which a person’s character reveals itself.”

In addition to visual art, Tinatin Tevzadze writes short stories in German. In them, she explores questions of identity, self-perception, and the relationship between the inner and outer worlds.
