CITY CYCLING: Mainz takes part again - May 30 to June 19, 2026
Head of Transport Janina Steinkrüger: "The journey is the destination - and every kilometer counts"
The commute to work, a quick trip to the bakery, a detour to the Rhine, or another lap around the park—many journeys in Mainz can be easily covered by bike. That’s exactly what this year’s CITY CYCLING is all about, and the state capital of Mainz is once again participating from May 30 to June 19.
For Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Mobility and Environment Department, the campaign is much more than just a competition. “Every year, STADTRADELN demonstrates just how much activity is already happening in our city. Many people use bicycles as a matter of course in their daily lives—and that is exactly what makes a city vibrant and livable.”
Anyone who lives, works, attends school or university, or is a member of a club in Mainz can participate. Registration takes place online at www.stadtradeln.de/mainz.
The kilometers cycled can be entered directly there or conveniently tracked via the STADTRADELN app. “Every participation sends a message in support of climate-friendly mobility and, at the same time, helps us better understand how people get around our city by bike. The journey is the destination—and every kilometer counts,” says Steinkrüger.
Participants can look forward to attractive prizes again this year. Everyone who cycles at least 25 kilometers is automatically entered into a raffle.
Mainz will kick off this year’s STADTRADELN—which runs through June 19—with a launch event on Saturday, May 30. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the banks of the Rhine (near the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke). Look forward to the mobile bike wash, the mobile bike museum, activities at the Circus Mobile, and information on traffic safety at the police’s Safety Mobile.
A special highlight: Starting at 10:30 a.m., the ADFC invites you to a guided bike tour through Mainz. The tour starts and ends on the banks of the Rhine at the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke and lasts about 90 minutes. It’s the perfect way to kick off the campaign together and experience the city from a new perspective.
Using the RADar! reporting platform, participants can also directly report issues with problematic spots in the bike network. The reports are forwarded to the relevant administrative departments and incorporated into the further development of the cycling infrastructure.
So if you’d like to join many other Mainz residents in racking up cycling kilometers, discovering new routes around the city, and taking a stand for climate-friendly mobility, you’re warmly invited to participate in CITY CYCLING 2026.
