The decision to implement the "Drais 2040" project was made unanimously at the Drais local council meeting on September 20, 2022.

With support from the City of Mainz, the current sentiment among Drais residents regarding their neighborhood was first assessed. The subsequent participatory process focused on exchanging ideas and discussing future development opportunities for Drais through the year 2040.

Based on this, courses of action and measures for the future were identified, which the local advisory board can support accordingly in the future. Within the Mainz city administration, the 12th Office for Urban Research and Sustainable Urban Development is responsible for leading the project.

The suggestions and requests received during the participatory process reflected the views of the participating residents of Drais and form an important foundation for the next phase of the process. The participatory process is intended to encourage networking and the exchange of information among citizens, with the goal of launching their own initiatives and projects.

The participatory process for the “Drais 2040” Future Workshop included a kickoff event, four workshops, the participation of children and youth, and a closing event.
