The decision to implement the "Drais 2040" project was made unanimously at the Drais local council meeting on September 20, 2022.

With the support of the city of Mainz, the current mood of Drais residents regarding their district was first assessed. The focus of the further participation process was on exchange and discussion about future development opportunities for Drais up to the year 2040.

This led to the identification of courses of action and measures for the future, which the local advisory council can support accordingly in the future. The 12th Department for Urban Research and Sustainable Urban Development is responsible for the project within the Mainz city administration.

The suggestions and requests received during the participation process represented the opinions of the participating Drais residents and form an important basis for the further process. The participation process is intended to encourage networking and information exchange among citizens with the aim of establishing their own initiatives and initiating projects.

The participation process for the "Drais 2040" future workshop included a kick-off event, four workshops, the participation of children and young people, and a closing event.
