The department organizes loans and interlibrary loans (procurement of unavailable literature from other libraries). The city library is the regional library for Mainz and Rheinhessen. The regional collection, built up over centuries, contains books and periodicals from and about Rheinhessen, which are indexed in the Rhineland-Palatinate Bibliography.
