If you have already been granted a residence permit for the purpose of attending school in Germany, you must have it renewed well in advance of its expiration.

To renew your residence permit, you must generally meet the same requirements as when it was first issued. In particular, you must generally be able to support yourself without relying on public assistance and have adequate health insurance.

The residence permit will be granted to you for no longer than the remaining duration of your schooling.

If you are a minor, your parents or legal guardians must consent to the renewal application.

You are not permitted to work part-time while you hold the residence permit.

• While you are in the country to attend school, you will generally only be granted a residence permit for another purpose if you have a legal right to do so, such as for family reunification or to pursue higher education. This also applies to the period after you finish school.

• File an appeal against the decision of the Immigration Office within one month of its notification
• Lawsuit before the court specified in the notice of decision on the appeal, if the appeal is not granted

• Application deadline: 8 weeks
  You should apply for an extension with the Office of Foreigners no later than 8 weeks before your current residence permit expires.

The immigration office responsible for the applicant's place of residence is responsible for processing the application.

Under certain conditions, a fee reduction or waiver may be granted.
