The local guardianship authority advises and supports affected persons and their relatives on issues relating to guardianship law, powers of attorney, and other forms of assistance for which no legal representative is appointed.

In addition, it advises and supports guardians and authorized persons in the performance of their duties and is also available as a point of contact for the persons concerned.

One of the central tasks of the guardianship authority is to investigate the facts on behalf of the guardianship court (Section 11 BtOG) if, for example, it needs to be clarified whether legal guardianship must be established and a guardian should be proposed.
