Adenauer-Ufer, 2nd construction phase (underground parking garage to Zollhafen)

Photo aerial view Rhine bank

Brief description

The banks of the Rhine are extremely important as a local recreation area for Mainz residents, tourists, and visitors, and they have a significant impact on the cityscape. In many areas, the design of the Rhine banks is outdated, does not meet today's usage requirements, but has great potential for greater recreational value and quality of stay.

The state capital of Mainz therefore intends to redesign the banks of the Rhine in several construction phases. The second construction phase covers the banks between the Rheinufer underground car park and the customs port. The aim is to structurally improve the open space on offer. This includes the attractiveness of the green spaces, the leisure facilities, and the recreational opportunities.

Citizen participation

A planning-accompanying process was carried out to involve citizens. After comprehensive information was provided, wishes and requirements were recorded in open formats. The results of the preliminary planning were presented at another face-to-face event. In addition, opportunities for participation took place on site and for children and young people. The findings were incorporated into the draft planning. Further information is available on the website, in the press, and on social media.
