Playground "In den Neun Morgen" - Equipped with new play equipment
Brief description
Several pieces of playground equipment at the "In den Neun Morgen" playground were dismantled in the winter of 2024/2025 due to their age. This freed up space for new playground equipment to be installed.
Citizen participation
Children, young people, parents, and local residents were invited to a participation meeting. As the playground is relatively small, no major changes are possible. Therefore, various designs for new playground equipment were presented directly. The children and young people voted for their favorites.
Affected urban area
Mainz-Marienborn
Planned planning and implementation period
- The participation meeting took place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 5 p.m. on the playground.
- Construction work on the playground took place in fall/winter 2024/25.
- The playground has been open again and available for use since February 2025.
Expected costs
A total of €50,000 is available for the purchase of new playground equipment under the "Child-Friendly Mainz" budget item of the Office for Youth and Family Affairs.
Current processing status (May 2, 2025)
On July 11, 2024, the participation event took place at the playground. Employees of the Parks and Environment Department presented two different designs for new playground equipment to the children, young people, residents, and local politicians in attendance. With 5 votes to 13, the children chose a climbing tower with a slide, a rocking animal, and a sandpit. The equipment was ordered in the summer and installed in December. The playground has been open again since February 2025 and is ready for use. On April 30, the playground was officially opened by Dr. Eckart Lensch, Head of Social Affairs, Janina Steinkrüger, Head of Environmental Affairs, and the Mainz-Marienborn Local Advisory Council.
