The discretionary fund of the Social City – Social Cohesion support program can be used to support measures that have a positive effect on the respective neighborhoods of Neustadt, Lerchenberg, and Mombach. The aim is to take up and financially support smaller measures and cooperation projects by associations and institutions, as well as ideas from citizens. The Local Transport Plan (NVP) serves to strategically and methodically organize local public transport in the state capital of Mainz. 3rd Mainz Youth Conference

At the Mainz Youth Conference, up to 300 young people between the ages of 13 and 17 can develop their own municipal projects and present them to representatives from city politics and city administration. The young people then implement the projects with the support of the city administration and politicians. The Youth Conference takes place once a year. The state capital of Mainz wants to make its various sports and exercise facilities fit for the future. For this reason, the Institute for Sports Facility Development (ISE) in Trier was commissioned to conduct a sports (facility) development study. The study consists of various components. The selection process for the redesign of the playground ran until December 16, 2022, which meant that all children, parents, and residents directly involved were asked to choose between two options. The majority opted for playground equipment option 1 (with a spinning top, balance beam, climbing tower, and table tennis table). The designs were based on the wishes and suggestions expressed at the meeting on July 19, 2022, on site at the playground.

Playground "Am Bürgerhaus", Lerchenberg

On October 13, 2022, all interested children, parents, and residents were invited to an on-site meeting at the playground. The subsequent renovation work was completed as planned by the end of 2023, and the official opening of the playground will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. as part of a press event hosted by Deputy Mayor Janina Steinkrüger and Deputy Mayor Dr. Eckart Lensch together with Local Council Chairwoman Sissi Westrich.

Marc-Chagall-Straße playground, Drais

The playground on Marc-Chagall Street in the Mainz Drais district has been redesigned. Following the participation of children and parents last summer, the playground was opened on March 29, 2023, by the two responsible department heads, Dr. Lensch (Social Affairs) and Ms. Steinkrüger (Green Spaces), as well as local mayor Norbert Solbach, during a press conference.

The inclusive playground in Hartenberg Park in the Hartenberg/Münchfeld district has been redesigned. Following the participation of children and parents last summer, the playground was opened on March 15, 2023, by the two responsible department heads, Dr. Lensch (Social Affairs) and Ms. Steinkrüger (Green Spaces), as well as local council chairwoman Christin Sauer, during a press conference.

Nino-Erné-Straße" playground, Lerchenberg

The newly designed playground on Nino-Erné-Straße in Mainz-Lerchenberg was opened on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. The participation process took place in the summer of 2021. Children, young people, parents, and residents were able to choose from three options. The "hay wagon/combine harvester" playground equipment option received the most votes.

What opportunities and challenges does the future growth of Mainz's Weisenau district present? Against the backdrop of the development of the former IBM site, which was previously used for commercial purposes, into the Heiligkreuzviertel residential area with over 5,000 residents, citizens were invited to participate in the "Weisenau Future Workshop" in 2016 and 2017. Numerous ideas on how Weisenau could develop as a whole were developed in various events. The Future Workshop process is now complete. All information can be found at the following link:

From 2013 to 2021, the city held the citizen forums "My City. My Ideas." twice a year to find out from Mainz residents which topics interest them and where they would like to see changes. From 2016 to 2019, seven district forums were also held in various districts of Mainz. The documentation and results are available here under "Completed Projects."
