Pfarrer-Stockheimer-Straße" playground - equipping with new play equipment
Brief description
The playground for small children, which has been unfurnished for some time, is to be re-equipped with play equipment due to a generational change and the influx of young families into the residential area.
Citizen participation
Children, parents, and residents of Bretzenheim were invited to the participation event on September 20, 2023. Posters announcing the event were put up in advance at the above-mentioned playground and in front of the nearby Römerstein Elementary School. In addition, posters and flyers were sent to the two daycare centers and the above-mentioned school (as well as the school social worker) in Bretzenheim. All stakeholders were informed in advance by email; in addition, the local council chair was asked to inform the members of the local advisory board.
At the participation meeting on site on September 20, 2023, Ms. Klöcker, the responsible planner from the Parks and Environment Department, presented two different designs for the redesign of the playground. After a round of questions and discussion, the more than 20 children present voted by a large majority in favor of the option with a varied balancing facility and a playhouse in the sand area.

The playground has been open since the fall break in 2024 and is very popular. The playground design is aimed particularly at small children. A varied balancing facility and a sand area with a playhouse and sand lift with baking table form the center of the play area, which is surrounded by new turf. A bench and large stone blocks on the sides provide seating for parents and children. At the suggestion of the children, a bicycle and scooter rack was also installed outside the playground.
On the afternoon of April 3, 2025, the two responsible councilors, Janina Steinkrüger (Head of the Department of Environment, Green Spaces, Energy, and Transportation) and Dr. Eckart Lensch (Head of the Department of Social Affairs, Children, Youth, Schools, and Health) officially opened the playground.
