Several pieces of playground equipment at the Wasserwerkswiese playground were dismantled in winter 2023/24 due to their age. Now there is space available again to install new playground equipment. As the playground has sufficient space, a calisthenics facility is also to be built.

On May 14, 2024, the second participation meeting took place at the playground. Two designs with different play equipment were presented to the children, young people, and residents. The children and young people then voted for their favorite. Variant 2 won with 28 votes to 5. Images of the winning design can be found on the project page "Participation projects at Mainz playgrounds" (link under "Further information"). Back in April, 80 children, young people, and their parents had already met at the playground and gathered ideas for the new play equipment. The favorite at that time, a hamster wheel, is now also included in the winning design. In addition, the equipment for the calisthenics facility was agreed upon together.

• The first participation meeting took place on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 5 p.m. on the playground.
• The second participation meeting took place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 5 p.m. on the playground.
• The new playground equipment was installed in spring 2025.
• Due to the budget situation of the state capital Mainz, the installation of the calisthenics facility had to be postponed. The equipment will be installed in spring 2026.

A total of €70,000 is available for the purchase of new playground equipment under the "Child-Friendly Mainz" budget item of the Office for Youth and Family Affairs. The Office for Parks and Environment has allocated €69,000 for the calisthenics facility.

The new playground equipment was installed in spring 2025. Due to the budget situation, the installation of the calisthenics facility had to be postponed. The equipment is expected to be installed in spring 2026.
