Barbecue areas
When the smell of barbecues fills the air, summer is finally here! To make barbecuing really fun, you will find designated barbecue areas in the city area and important information here.
Barbecue on the banks of the Rhine
Barbecuing is permitted at a designated area behind the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge (towards Neustadt, near the castle gate/electoral palace). A sign indicates this barbecue area, known as the Holzschlepprampe.
Barbecuing is tolerated in the Ingelheimer Auespitze area and on the banks of the Winterhafen.
Barbecuing on the banks of the Rhine in Mainz between the customs and inland port and the swing bridge at Winterhafen is prohibited. On behalf of the residents, the city administration asks for your understanding and cooperation.
Barbecue in the Volkspark
The large barbecue area is located between Otto Brunfels-Schneise, the youth hostel, and the Tal der Stauden (valley of perennials) at Weisenauer Tor. This meadow area in the northeastern part of the public park is clearly marked with signs. Barbecuing is only permitted here.
Please note: Hot ashes or (the unwelcome!) "disposable barbecues" can be disposed of in the Volkspark in a labeled concrete ring enclosure at several locations.
The barbecue area in the public park is equipped with permanently installed barbecue grills. Therefore, rentals are no longer available.

Waste disposal
If the numerous waste bins at the barbecue areas are not sufficient, we kindly ask you to dispose of your waste in your bins at home. It is best to separate recyclable materials into the various recycling bins so that the waste can be recycled and disposed of in the best possible way.
