Victor-Hugo Ufer

The Victor-Hugo Ufer adjoins the Adenauer-Ufer and extends as far as the railroad bridge. The Victor-Hugo Ufer includes the winter harbor.

The final section of the riverfront, the Victor-Hugo-Ufer, stretches from the swing bridge just past the Malakoff Passage to the railway bridge. Starting from the Stresemann-Ufer, pedestrians must first walk past the cultural center and cross the small pedestrian bridge to reach the pier. This is where the Victor-Hugo-Ufer begins, often simply referred to as Mainz’s Winter Harbor.

The beer garden at the tip of the pier is a popular gathering spot for Mainz residents. From here, the view in every direction is worth taking in: the Theodor-Heuss Bridge, the Maaraue, and the mouth of the Main River are all visible.
On beautiful summer evenings, it’s worth arriving early at the Winterhafen—this is where groups large and small gather to enjoy one of the best summer pastimes: barbecuing.
The Winterhafen grounds are home to the Mainz Rowing Club and the Mainz Canoe Club.

Rhine bank summer

A few years ago, the Boathouse opened as a stylish restaurant on this tranquil stretch of riverbank. It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy warm afternoons in a deck chair. Just past the Boathouse, the path climbs steeply up to the railway bridge, which opened in 1862 and leads across to Gustavsburg and the Mainspitze—where the Rhine and Main meet. To the west, it forms the transition to Mainz City Park.
